Seymour Data

Seamour, the 13-2 favourite of Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate on Saturday, looked like a surefire winner one furlong from the finish. In running trading with Betfair was as short as 1.04.

However, as the speed graph shows, Seamour (green line) accelerates away from the field 2 furlongs from home (1) but cannot sustain that speed (2) and is collared close to home (3) by Antiquarium (red line) who runs a more “efficient” race.

Seamour’s penultimate furlong was a speedy (but inefficient) 10.8 seconds or 40.27mph,  a speed normally associated with 6/7 furlong horses at this stage of a race.
